Ingredients
Sliders
- 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 1 pound beef shaved steak (or skirt steak)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ medium onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 6 slices provolone cheese
Butter Topping
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
Instructions
- Prepare: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Slice each of the 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls horizontally to create a top and bottom half. Arrange the bottom halves in a 13x9x2 inch baking dish, creating the base for your sliders.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and green bell peppers, cooking until they are tender and slightly caramelized, approximately 5 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook Beef: In the same skillet, add the shaved beef steak. Cook on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the beef is no longer pink and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Stir in 2 tablespoons soy sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste for added flavor.
- Assemble Sliders: Spread the cooked beef evenly over the bottom halves of the rolls placed in the baking dish. Layer the sautéed onions and bell peppers on top of the beef, then cover with 6 slices of provolone cheese.
- Top Buns: Place the top halves of the sweet rolls over the cheese-covered layers, completing the slider assembly.
- Prepare Butter Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Stir in ¼ teaspoon garlic salt and 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes to infuse flavorful notes into the butter.
- Brush and Bake: Using a basting brush, generously coat the tops of the slider buns with the butter mixture. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese fully and achieve golden, crispy tops on the buns.
- Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, cut into individual portions, and serve warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- Skirt steak can be substituted with shaved beef or thinly sliced ribeye for a more authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor.
- If preferred, provolone cheese can be replaced with American or mozzarella cheese based on your taste.
- These sliders can be prepared ahead of time, assembled, covered, and refrigerated. Bake fresh before serving.
- To add extra flavor, consider sautéing the vegetables with minced garlic or adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef.
- Use Hawaiian sweet rolls for a nice contrast of sweetness, but any soft dinner roll will work.
