Ingredients
- 6 ounces pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 to 2 drops red food coloring, optional
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together pineapple juice, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and light brown sugar.
- Heat the sauce over medium heat until it comes to a simmer and all of the ingredients are well combined.
- In a small bowl, stir together cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.
- If desired, add a drop or two of red food coloring to achieve the signature red color of classic sweet and sour sauce.
- Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of sugar for a sweeter or tangier flavor, depending on your preference.
