Description
A rustic yet elegant dessert, this easy apple galette combines buttery puff pastry with warmly spiced apples. Perfect for entertaining or a cozy night in, especially when served with caramel sauce and a scoop of ice cream.
Ingredients
- For the Filling:
- 4 apples, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch slices (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
- 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- For the Galette:
- 1 (13–16 oz) package refrigerated puff pastry
- 1 egg, whisked
- 2 tablespoons coarse sugar
Instructions
- Prepare Filling: In a large bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cover and refrigerate while preparing the dough.
- Roll Out Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry into a large rectangle. Transfer to a 10-inch round skillet or place on parchment or a baking mat. Trim excess if needed.
- Fill the Galette: Spoon the apple filling into the center of the dough, leaving a 2–3 inch border. Arrange the apples casually or in concentric circles.
- Fold and Finish: Fold the edges over the apples, overlapping slightly and pressing to seal. Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled galette for 15–20 minutes (or up to 8 hours).
- Bake: Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 35–40 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Serve: Enjoy warm, optionally topped with salted caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
