Description

Smash Burger Tacos combine the classic American smash burger with vibrant Tex-Mex flavors, creating a delicious fusion taco. Featuring thinly smashed ground beef cooked quickly on a hot skillet inside a warm flour tortilla, topped with queso, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, and a spicy sour cream salsa drizzle, these tacos offer a tasty and satisfying meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Beef and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Tortillas and Toppings

  • 8 (8-inch) flour tortillas
  • 1/2 cup queso
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo
  • 1/2 cup guacamole

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons salsa
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika or chipotle powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef mixture: In a bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, mixing well. Divide the mixture evenly into 8 portions and roll each into a ball.
  2. Heat the pan and tortillas: Preheat a skillet over medium heat and coat with cooking spray. Place one tortilla on the hot pan, then place one beef ball in the center.
  3. Smash and cook the beef: Using a spatula or your palm, press the beef ball flat onto the tortilla to form a thin patty. Cook for about 3 minutes without disturbing.
  4. Flip and finish cooking: Carefully flip the tortilla with the beef patty and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until fully cooked.
  5. Fold the taco: Remove the cooked taco from the pan and fold the tortilla in half to form a taco shape.
  6. Heat the queso: Warm the queso in the microwave following package directions until smooth and pourable.
  7. Assemble the toppings: Spoon queso over the cooked beef, then add shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole to each taco.
  8. Prepare and drizzle the sauce: In a small bowl, combine sour cream, salsa, and smoked paprika or chipotle powder. Drizzle this spicy cream sauce over the assembled tacos before serving.

Notes

  • Use a heavy spatula or your palm to press the burger thin and evenly on the tortilla.
  • The smashed patties cook very quickly; plan for about 5 to 6 minutes total cooking time per taco.
  • You can serve the tacos flat or folded depending on your preference.
  • The sour cream sauce is spicy and different from traditional smash burger sauce; adjust the paprika or chipotle powder to your heat preference.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days for best freshness.
