Description

Homemade Slow Cooker Apple Butter is a rich, spiced fruit spread made by simmering apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Perfect for spreading on biscuits, toast, or using in baked goods, this smooth and flavorful butter is a cozy fall favorite.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients except the apples.
  2. Place apples in the slow cooker and cover with the sugar and spice mixture. Toss well to fully coat the apples.
  3. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown.
  4. Uncover the slow cooker and cook for an additional 2 hours.
  5. Turn off the heat and use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. If you do not have an immersion blender, allow the mixture to cool slightly and blend in a standard blender, holding the lid securely.
