Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or a mix), diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz (1 package) cream cheese
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
- 1½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers. Cook for 5-6 minutes until softened, then add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper. Break up the meat with a spatula and cook until browned, about 7-8 minutes.
- Stir in soy sauce to coat the meat and veggies, enhancing the flavors.
- Reduce heat to low and add softened cream cheese. Stir until melted and fully combined with the beef mixture, creating a creamy texture.
- Once combined, transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Layer provolone cheese slices over the meat mixture, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
- Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
- You can add other vegetables like mushrooms or spinach to customize the dish.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
- Make this dish ahead of time by preparing the casserole and storing it in the fridge for up to 2 days before baking.
