Description

This homemade Instant Pot applesauce is a simple, wholesome treat made with a mix of sweet and tart apples. Naturally sweet and spiced with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice, it’s easy to make with or without added sweetener. Perfect warm or chilled, and great for kids and adults alike!

Ingredients

  • pounds tart apples (about 4 large or 6 small, such as Granny Smith)
  • pounds sweet apples (about 4 large or 6 small, such as Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, or Pink Lady)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pumpkin pie spice or ground cinnamon
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup honey, pure maple syrup, or brown sugar (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Peel and core apples, then cut into 1-inch chunks. Place in the bottom of a 6-quart Instant Pot.
  2. Add water, lemon juice, and spice.
  3. Seal the Instant Pot and cook on HIGH pressure for 8 minutes. Quick release the pressure.
  4. Mash the apples using a wooden spoon or potato masher for chunky texture.
  5. For a smoother applesauce, blend with an immersion blender or regular blender in batches.
  6. Stir in sweetener to taste, if using. Adjust spices if desired.
  7. Serve warm, cold, or at room temperature.

Notes

  • No need to peel apples if you prefer a more rustic texture—just blend smooth after cooking.
  • Mix different apple varieties for depth of flavor.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Great served on its own, with yogurt, or alongside pork dishes.
