Description
A simple and delightful recipe for making crispy rice using cooked basmati rice baked in the oven with sesame oil and garlic chili sauce for a flavorful and crunchy texture. Perfect as a snack or added to salads.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 4 cups cooked basmati rice*
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic chili sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F to prepare for baking the rice.
- Mix: Place the cooked rice on a large, rimmed baking sheet and add sesame oil, garlic chili sauce, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Toss thoroughly to coat the rice evenly. Then spread the rice out evenly on the baking sheet.
- Bake: Position the baking sheet one level below the oven’s heat source and bake for 15 minutes. Toss the rice halfway through cooking. Continue baking and tossing every 5 minutes until the rice reaches your preferred level of crispness, typically around 25-35 minutes total.
- Cool + Serve: Allow the crispy rice to cool for a few minutes—it will become crispier as it cools. Enjoy it on its own or as a crunchy addition to dishes like Crispy Rice Salad.
Notes
- Rice: For best results, use day-old rice. Freshly cooked then cooled rice also works. Quick microwaveable basmati rice bags are a good shortcut.
- Cook Time: Oven temperatures vary, so use the recommended time as a guideline and keep an eye on rice texture to avoid burning.
- Storage: Store leftover crispy rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days to maintain crispiness.
