Description

This Honey-Soy Glazed Cod recipe offers a perfect balance of sweet and savory Asian-inspired flavors. Fresh ginger, garlic, and sesame blend with honey and soy sauce to create a delicious glaze that caramelizes beautifully on tender, flaky cod filets under the broiler. Quick to prepare and packed with flavor, this dish makes an elegant yet easy main course perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds

Other Ingredients:

  • 2 cod filets (5-6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced diagonally

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced fresh ginger, and sesame seeds. Mix well to form a smooth glaze.
  2. Prepare the cod filets: Place the cod filets in a glass dish and pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel to ensure the glaze adheres well.
  3. Marinate the fish: Brush 1 tablespoon of the prepared glaze evenly over the cod filets. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours, allowing the flavors to soak in. Reserve the remaining glaze for the cooking process.
  4. Preheat the broiler and prepare the pan: Position the oven rack in the center and set the oven to low broil. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Use foil if your broiler exceeds 450°F to prevent burning.
  5. Broil the cod: Place the marinated cod filets on the lined sheet pan and brush them with the reserved glaze. Broil on low for 12-14 minutes, brushing the glaze onto the filets every 2-3 minutes as you use it up, continuing to glaze the filets on the pan as well.
  6. Finish browning: Increase the broiler setting to high and broil for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cod is nicely browned on the outside and reaches an internal temperature of 135-140°F for optimal flakiness.
  7. Serve: Remove the cod from the oven, transfer to serving plates, and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve immediately and enjoy the flavorful, caramelized glaze with tender cod.

Notes

  • Marinating the cod for longer (up to 2 hours) will enhance the flavor but avoid exceeding this time to prevent the fish from becoming too soft.
  • If you do not have fresh ginger or garlic, you can substitute with powdered versions, adjusting quantity to taste.
  • Ensure the broiler is not too close to the fish to avoid burning the glaze prematurely.
  • Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer for perfectly cooked fish.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed rice and sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
