Description
This Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a sweet and indulgent breakfast treat made with King’s Hawaiian Rolls. Soaked in a cinnamon-sugar custard and cooked to golden perfection, it’s the ultimate way to start your day. Serve it with powdered sugar, fresh berries, and maple syrup for the perfect breakfast or brunch!
Ingredients
- 1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian Rolls
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup half-and-half or whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
- Powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and half-and-half (or milk) until fully combined. Add vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to poke several holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian Roll. This will help the custard soak in. Working in batches, dip each roll into the custard mixture, letting them soak for 30 seconds per side. Be careful not to soak for too long to prevent sogginess.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the soaked rolls in the skillet, cooking each side for 30-60 seconds, or until golden brown. Carefully turn them with a spatula to ensure all sides are crispy.
- Serve your Hawaiian Roll French Toast warm, dusted with powdered sugar. Top with fresh berries and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
Notes
- For a richer custard, you can use whole milk or even heavy cream.
- Add a sprinkle of extra cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced flavor boost.
- If you want to prepare this ahead of time, you can soak the rolls in the custard mixture the night before and store them in the fridge. Just cook them the next morning.
- For an extra indulgent treat, try adding whipped cream or a dollop of yogurt on top!
