Description

Flaky puff pastry topped with creamy hummus, spiced ground beef, toasted pine nuts, and fresh parsley for a savory and elegant appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup hummus
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts, toasted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Place puff pastry on the baking sheet. Cut slits about ½ inch from the edges to form a square frame, without cutting all the way through. Prick the center with a fork to prevent puffing.
  3. Bake Pastry: Brush pastry with beaten egg and bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden and puffed.
  4. Cook Beef: Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.
  5. Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until browned. Stir in cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2–3 more minutes, then remove from heat.
  6. Assemble: Gently press down the center of the baked pastry. Spread hummus evenly inside the frame. Spoon beef mixture over the hummus.
  7. Garnish & Serve: Top with toasted pine nuts, chopped parsley, and a drizzle of olive oil. Slice into squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use store-bought or homemade hummus depending on preference.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle with Aleppo pepper or chili flakes.
  • You can substitute ground lamb or turkey for the beef.
