Description
Ground beef and savory gravy served over creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting and hearty meal.
Ingredients
- For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 3 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup milk (warm)
- 6 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- For the Beef Gravy:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
Instructions
- Mashed Potatoes: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add chopped potatoes. Reduce heat and simmer until fork tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and return potatoes to the pot. Add warm milk and butter. Mash until creamy using a masher, hand mixer, or ricer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Beef Gravy: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and diced onion. (Add a drizzle of olive oil if using lean beef or turkey.) Cook until beef is browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, bouillon cube, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well and bring to a low simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Cover to keep warm until serving.
- To Serve: Spoon beef and gravy over a generous portion of mashed potatoes. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef.
- Swap beef broth for chicken broth for a lighter version.
- For extra creaminess in mashed potatoes, add sour cream or cream cheese.
