Description

This Grilled Teriyaki Steak features juicy New York steaks marinated in a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce, then grilled to perfection. It’s an easy and flavorful meal ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 New York Steaks (about 1 ½ inches thick)
  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup rice vinegar
  • ⅔ cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, water, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Place the steaks in a container or large ziplock bag. Pour half of the marinade over the steaks and reserve the other half. Marinate for 4 hours or overnight, tossing occasionally.
  3. Pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Mix the cornstarch with 1 teaspoon water and add to the saucepan. Whisk to combine.
  4. Simmer the sauce over medium-high heat for 12-15 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  5. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side. Move to indirect heat, baste with teriyaki sauce, and continue cooking to desired doneness.
  7. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute the New York steak with ribeye, flank, or skirt steak.
  • Marinate overnight for deeper flavor.
  • For stovetop cooking, use a cast-iron skillet and finish in a 400°F oven.
  • Serve with rice, vegetables, or salad for a complete meal.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
