These easy Graham Cracker Bars are a sweet and chewy vintage dessert made with just a few pantry staples. Perfectly simple and incredibly satisfying!
Ingredients
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup chocolate chips, plus more for topping if desired
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of an 8×8-inch baking pan with butter or shortening. Line with parchment paper, pressing it into the corners and up the sides. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt.
- Add in sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top and sprinkle with additional chocolate chips if desired.
- Bake for 22 to 25 minutes until golden and set.
- Allow to cool completely in the pan before removing and slicing into bars.
Notes
- Feel free to add toasted pecans or walnuts for crunch.
- You can substitute peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or butterscotch chips.
- For a s’mores variation, mix in ½ cup dehydrated marshmallows.
- Bars will be thick and chewy with fine graham crumbs; coarser crumbs yield denser, gooier bars.
- Use a square-edged pan for best results.
- Recipe can be doubled and baked in a 9×13-inch pan.
