Description

These easy Graham Cracker Bars are a sweet and chewy vintage dessert made with just a few pantry staples. Perfectly simple and incredibly satisfying!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, plus more for topping if desired
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of an 8×8-inch baking pan with butter or shortening. Line with parchment paper, pressing it into the corners and up the sides. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add in sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top and sprinkle with additional chocolate chips if desired.
  5. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes until golden and set.
  6. Allow to cool completely in the pan before removing and slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Feel free to add toasted pecans or walnuts for crunch.
  • You can substitute peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or butterscotch chips.
  • For a s’mores variation, mix in ½ cup dehydrated marshmallows.
  • Bars will be thick and chewy with fine graham crumbs; coarser crumbs yield denser, gooier bars.
  • Use a square-edged pan for best results.
  • Recipe can be doubled and baked in a 9×13-inch pan.
