Description

Filipino Lumpia (Crispy Beef Egg Rolls) are a savory and crispy delight, filled with ground beef, garlic, onions, and carrots. These egg rolls make the perfect appetizer, with a satisfying crunch and a savory filling. Paired with sweet chili sauce, they’re sure to be a hit at any gathering or party!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or any meat of choice)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 25 egg roll wrappers (thin papers found in Asian markets)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a pan, add the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is fully cooked and browned. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add the shredded carrots to the meat mixture and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  3. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a flat surface. Place about 1 ½ tablespoons of the meat mixture on the lower part of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the sides of the wrapper in, then roll the egg roll up tightly over the filling. Seal the edge with a little water and set aside.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan for frying. Once hot, carefully add the lumpia and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce for dipping. Enjoy your crispy Filipino lumpia!

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can substitute ground chicken or turkey.
  • If you prefer extra crunch, you can freeze the lumpia for 30 minutes before frying.
  • For extra flavor, feel free to add a dash of fish sauce or oyster sauce to the filling.
