Description

This Double Chocolate Banana Bread is the ultimate treat for banana bread lovers who also crave rich chocolate flavor. Moist and tender, it perfectly balances the sweetness of ripe bananas with intense cocoa and melty dark chocolate chips. Made gluten free with simple ingredients, it’s a delectable loaf ideal for breakfast, snacks, or dessert that everyone will enjoy.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups mashed banana (roughly 3-4 large bananas), plus 1 additional banana for the top
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 cups gluten free flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup mini dark chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, mashed banana, dark brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir everything until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the gluten free flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt to the wet mixture. Stir thoroughly until you have a uniform batter without dry pockets.
  3. Prepare Batter: Fold in 1/2 cup of the mini dark chocolate chips into the batter gently to distribute them evenly throughout.
  4. Transfer to Pan: Pour the batter into a prepared 9×5 inch loaf pan. If desired, sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top or press sliced banana pieces onto the surface for garnish and extra flavor.
  5. Bake: Place the loaf pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 60 to 70 minutes. The bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly in the pan before removing it. Then transfer it onto a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy this moist, chocolatey banana bread!

Notes

  • This banana bread is gluten free, so ensure all ingredients including baking soda and chocolate chips are certified gluten free.
  • For best flavor, use very ripe bananas to enhance sweetness and moisture.
  • You can substitute mini chocolate chips with regular sized chips if mini are not available.
  • Store leftover bread wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Make sure to check doneness with a toothpick to avoid overbaking which can dry out the bread.
