Description

This Coconut Milk Hot Chocolate is a thick, creamy, and ultra decadent drink perfect for cozy winter days. Made with full-fat coconut milk, almond milk, and naturally sweetened with coconut sugar or maple syrup, it is a comforting treat without refined sugars. The addition of dark chocolate chips, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and vanilla extract creates a rich and flavorful hot chocolate that’s perfect for sipping or dipping your favorite snacks.

Ingredients

Milk and Sweeteners

  • 1 13.5-oz (400 ml) can full-fat coconut milk
  • ⅓ cup (80 ml) plain unsweetened almond milk
  • 4 tbsp coconut sugar or maple syrup*

Flavorings

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup (60 g) dark chocolate chips
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the milks and sweetener: In a medium pot over medium heat, whisk together the coconut milk, almond milk, coconut sugar or maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and flaky sea salt. Continue whisking until the mixture begins to simmer gently.
  2. Add cocoa and chocolate chips: Once the mixture is simmering, whisk in the cocoa powder and dark chocolate chips. Continue stirring until the chocolate is fully melted and the drink is smooth and creamy.
  3. Finish with vanilla: Turn off the heat and stir in the pure vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  4. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. For an extra indulgent touch, top with coconut cream and chocolate shavings if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy the cozy warmth.

Notes

  • Coconut Sugar or Maple Syrup: Use coconut sugar by adding it at the beginning to allow time for it to melt smoothly. If opting for maple syrup, stir it in at the end to maintain its flavor integrity.
  • We recommend using Guittard’s dark chocolate chips made with coconut sugar for a completely refined sugar-free hot chocolate.
