Description
This American-style chocolate buttercream frosting is rich, smooth, and perfectly chocolatey. Ready in just 6 minutes, it’s ideal for spreading or piping on cupcakes, cakes, and other desserts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- 3 to 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream, plus more as needed to thin
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Using a handheld mixer or stand mixer with a whisk attachment, beat the softened butter on high speed for about 3 minutes until creamy and pale in color. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Add the confectioners sugar, cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Start mixing on low speed until the sugar is fully incorporated, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 3 more minutes, scraping the bowl several times to ensure even mixing.
- If needed, add an additional tablespoon of heavy cream to achieve desired frosting consistency.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is softened for the smoothest texture.
- Add more cream a tablespoon at a time to adjust the thickness for spreading or piping.
- This frosting is best used fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days and re-whipped before use.
