Description

Juicy cheeseburgers, either single or double, made with flavorful ground beef, topped with your choice of cheese, fresh veggies, and a variety of sauces. A perfect meal for any burger lover.

Ingredients

  • Single Cheeseburgers:
  • 600 g / 1.2 lb beef mince (ground beef), at least 20% fat
  • Mighty Double Cheeseburgers:
  • 1.2 kg / 2.4 lb beef mince (ground beef), at least 20% fat
  • For Cooking:
  • 1/8 tsp salt and pepper per burger
  • 23 tbsp canola oil
  • For Assembling:
  • 4 soft burger buns (10cm/4” wide)
  • 48 slices burger cheese (American or choice of cheese)
  • 8 cos/romaine lettuce leaves (torn or shredded iceberg)
  • 2 large tomatoes, cut into 8 slices
  • 1 red onion, finely sliced into rings
  • 2 large gherkins, finely sliced
  • Sauce Options:
  • Special Burger Sauce (creamy orangey/pink, no-cook)
  • Tomato chutney for burgers
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • On the Side:
  • French fries (highly recommended!)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Patties: Divide the beef into 4 equal portions (or 8 for double burgers). Roll into balls, then press into patties slightly larger than your bun (about 12 cm / 4.7″ wide, 1 cm / 0.4″ thick for a 10 cm / 4″ bun).
  2. Prepare Ingredients: Get all burger toppings ready. Do not salt the beef until just before cooking to keep it tender.
  3. Toast Buns: Preheat the grill to high. Place buns cut-side up on a tray and toast for 3–5 minutes until light golden. (If using BBQ, place cut-side down directly on the grill). Set aside.
  4. Shape Patties: Sprinkle one side of patties with half the salt and pepper. Flip and press a dent into the center of each patty (prevents doming and shrinkage). Sprinkle the dented side with the remaining salt and pepper.
  5. Cook Patties:
    • Stove Method: Preheat 1 tbsp oil in a large cast iron skillet over high heat until smoking hot. Cook 2–4 patties for 1.5 minutes per side, pressing down lightly with a spatula. Flip, top with cheese, and cook for another 1.5 minutes. Rest patties for 3 minutes.
    • BBQ/Grill Method: Preheat BBQ on high. Cook patties as per stove method, flipping and topping with cheese after 1.5 minutes. Rest for 3 minutes. Optionally, toast buns on the grill for 2–3 minutes.
  6. Assemble Burgers: Slather sauce of choice on the bottom of each bun. Assemble with lettuce, tomato, burger patty (double for a double cheeseburger!), gherkins, onion, and sauce on the top bun.
  7. Serve: Serve with French fries on the side. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Burger Size: Adjust the beef quantity based on the size of your buns to avoid a too-thin patty.
  • Sauce Suggestions: Use the Special Burger Sauce for a creamy, flavorful twist.
