Ingredients
- 8–10 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Pinch of salt
- ½ cup butter, melted (113g)
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk (60g)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or a French baguette of similar size)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped parsley and chili flakes for serving
Instructions
- Roast the Garlic: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss the peeled garlic cloves with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Place them in a mini oven-safe pot with a lid or cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes until soft and golden. Mash the roasted garlic with a fork and set aside.
- Prepare the Garlic Butter Custard: In a bowl, whisk together the mashed roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and chopped parsley until smooth.
- Assembly: Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C). Slice the bread into halves (or use a baguette of similar size). Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Dip in Garlic Butter Custard: Once the bread is baked, dip the halves into the garlic butter custard, ensuring each side is fully coated with the mixture.
- Bake Again: Place the dipped bread back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 15-18 minutes at 350°F (175°C) until golden.
- Add Cheese and Broil: Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the bread. Switch the oven to broil and broil for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and chili flakes, then slice and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add red chili flakes or cayenne pepper to the garlic butter custard.
- Try adding fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for an aromatic twist.
- This recipe is perfect with a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan for a cheesier option.
