Description

Baked Tilapia with Lemon Garlic Sauce is a quick and flavorful American entrée that comes together in under 20 minutes. Featuring tender tilapia fillets infused with a zesty lemon garlic butter sauce and capers, this dish is perfect for a nutritious weeknight dinner that pleases the whole family.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 4 (6 oz) tilapia fillets
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup capers, drained (or more if desired)
  • 3 lemon wedges
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for baking the fish.
  2. Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly grease a 9″x13″ baking dish using cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Arrange Fillets: Place the tilapia fillets in the baking dish, allowing slight overlapping if necessary.
  4. Season Fillets: Generously season both sides of the fillets with salt, then lightly sprinkle pepper and dried oregano over the top for flavor.
  5. Make Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, extra-virgin olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, and minced garlic until combined.
  6. Apply Sauce & Capers: Pour the lemon garlic butter mixture evenly over the fish. Sprinkle the drained capers on top for a burst of briny flavor.
  7. Bake: Bake the fish uncovered for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the tilapia flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, spooning the pan sauce over the fillets. Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of capers to suit your taste; adding more will increase the savory flavor.
  • Ensure the tilapia reaches an internal temperature of 145°F to ensure it is fully cooked and safe to eat.
  • To make this gluten free, verify that your cooking spray and other ingredients do not contain gluten additives.
  • For extra brightness, squeeze fresh lemon wedges over the fillets just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
