Description
A deliciously creamy and savory avocado grilled cheese sandwich featuring smooth avocado mash, fresh coriander and green chili, melted cheese slices, and perfectly toasted golden bread. This recipe offers a quick, flavorful breakfast or snack option using simple, wholesome ingredients and a stovetop cooking method.
Ingredients
Avocado Mash
- 2 Avocados
- ¼ cup Coriander leaves
- 1 Green chilli
- ½ Lime (juiced)
- Salt, to taste
Sandwich
- 10 Bread slices
- 10 Cheese slices
- Butter, as needed (approximately 2 tsp)
Instructions
- Prepare the Avocado: Run a knife around each avocado seed and twist open to separate the halves. Remove the seeds carefully.
- Scoop and Chop: Scoop out the avocado pulp with a spoon and roughly chop it before placing it into a mixer or food processor for blending.
- Make the Avocado Mash: Add coriander leaves, green chilli, lime juice, and a pinch of salt to the avocado. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Take bread slices and lay one cheese slice on each. Spread the prepared avocado mash evenly over the cheese layer, then add another slice of cheese on top.
- Complete the Sandwich: Cover the layered fillings with another bread slice to form a sandwich.
- Heat the Pan: Preferably use a cast iron pan and grease it with about 1 teaspoon of butter on low to medium heat.
- Cook the Sandwich: Place the avocado grilled cheese sandwich carefully on the heated pan. Cover it and cook gently to allow the cheese to melt and the bread to toast evenly.
- Flip and Press: Once the underside turns golden brown, flip the sandwich carefully and press lightly to ensure even toasting and melting. Add another teaspoon of butter to the pan to help achieve a crispier, golden crust.
- Finish Cooking: Remove the sandwich from the pan once both sides are crispy and golden brown.
- Serve: Cut the sandwich into halves using a serrated knife, slicing gently to avoid the avocado and cheese filling from oozing out. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Use ripe but firm avocados for the best texture in the mash.
- Adjust the amount of green chilli to control the heat level.
- Butter helps achieve a crispy and golden crust; do not skip it.
- A cast iron pan is preferred for even heat distribution but any non-stick skillet will work.
- Serve immediately for the best taste and texture as the sandwich is best enjoyed warm.
- You can substitute cheese types based on preference, but a good melting cheese like cheddar or mozzarella works best.
