Description

Easy and delicious apple fritters made with fresh apples and pantry staples, fried to golden perfection and topped with a sweet glaze. Ready in under an hour, these are perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour (180g)
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup whole milk (180mL)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large apples (about 1 pound/450g), peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • For the Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot or Dutch oven with vegetable oil about 1½ inches deep. Heat over medium-high heat to 350°F using a candy or deep fry thermometer.
  2. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with paper towels and place a wire rack on top.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and fold until just combined.
  5. Add the diced apples to the batter and stir until apples are evenly coated.
  6. Once oil is at temperature, scoop about ¼ cup of batter per fritter into the hot oil, frying 4 to 6 at a time.
  7. Fry each fritter for about 2 minutes on one side until golden brown, flip and fry the other side for another 2 minutes.
  8. Use a slotted spoon to transfer fritters to the wire rack to drain and cool slightly. Repeat until all batter is used.
  9. For the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk, and vanilla extract. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
  10. Dip fritters in the glaze or drizzle over the top. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days (note: texture may change).
  • To reheat: Bake in oven at 350°F for 10 minutes or air fry at 325°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best flavor balance.
