Description

A warm and comforting fall dessert, this Apple Crisp is easy to make with tender apples under a crispy oat topping. The perfect treat to enjoy on cool autumn evenings.

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup grated apple
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, grated apple, granulated sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir well to coat the apples evenly and transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and kosher salt.
  4. Add the chilled, cubed butter to the oat mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Notes
