Description

This Air Fryer Focaccia Bread recipe delivers a quick and easy homemade bread with a delightful golden crust and soft, airy interior. Perfect for appetizers, sides, or sandwiches, this recipe uses simple ingredients and the convenience of an air fryer to create authentic focaccia without the need for a traditional oven.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, stir together lukewarm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the surface, then gently stir into the water to combine. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy, indicating it’s active.
  2. Make Dough: In another large bowl, combine bread flour and salt. Add the foamy yeast mixture and 1/4 cup olive oil. Using a rubber spatula, stir the ingredients until well combined to form a dough.
  3. First Rise: Spray a clean bowl lightly with cooking spray and place the dough inside. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Shape Dough: Preheat the air fryer to 370°F. On a lightly floured surface, divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each portion into an 8-inch by 6-inch rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Press your fingers gently into the dough to create the signature focaccia dimples.
  5. Air Fry the Bread: Place one loaf into the air fryer basket. Bake for 10 minutes, flipping the loaf over after 6 minutes to ensure even browning. The bread should be golden brown and firm when done. Repeat with the second loaf.

Notes

  • Make sure the water is lukewarm, around 100-110°F, for proper yeast activation.
  • Dimpling the dough is essential for traditional focaccia texture and helps hold olive oil and toppings if added.
  • You can drizzle extra olive oil and sprinkle herbs like rosemary before air frying for added flavor.
  • Air fryer sizes vary; adjust cooking time slightly if needed to avoid under or over-baking.
  • Let the bread cool slightly before slicing to maintain structure.
