Description
These Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies are a quick and easy dessert, filled with cinnamon-sugar apples wrapped in a buttery, flaky pie crust. Crispy on the outside and sweet and tender on the inside, these mini hand pies make the perfect fall treat or snack, all made effortlessly in the air fryer!
Ingredients
- 1 (14.1 ounce) refrigerated pie crust (2 crusts)
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 cup water
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 3 tablespoons coarse sugar
Instructions
- Heat a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced apples, lemon juice, water, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10 minutes until the apples soften slightly and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and allow the apple mixture to cool for 10 minutes.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the pie crust and cut it into 4 ½-inch circles using a cookie cutter or similar tool. Arrange the circles on the baking sheet.
- Spoon 2 tablespoons of the apple filling onto the bottom half of each circle. Fold the top half of the crust over and press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Use a small knife to make three slits in the top of each hand pie.
- Brush the pies with an egg wash (mix the egg with 1 tablespoon of water). Sprinkle the tops with coarse sugar.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
- Place 2–5 hand pies in the air fryer basket, making sure they aren’t touching. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve warm and enjoy your crispy, delicious apple hand pies!
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the filling.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 12–15 minutes.
- For extra flavor, add a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dusting of powdered sugar on top after baking.
